Since we already know the new (now current) Porsche Boxster, we knew what to expect from their slightly more focused hardtop version, the Cayman. Now that the automaker has released some shots of the new Cayman, it is safe to say that there are no surprises.
Having previously seen it virtually undisguised, this set of pictures sheds a little more light - not a lot. As a car, the new Cayman looks very good, and is probably the best-proportioned Porsche design in ages. It will also share all of its engines with the open-top Boxster - a 2.7-liter flat-six with 265 hp, as well as the larger 3.4-liter unit, which pumps out 315 hp. Despite the fact that no official information has been released, rumors suggest that it may get an extra 10 hp, over the comparable Boxster model.

Power will be directed to the rear wheels via either a manual six-speed gearbox, or Porsche’s dual-clutch seven-speed PDK transmission. Also, with the added rigidity of the hardtop, as well as the marginal reduction in weight which is possible by removing some of the strengthening usually required by roadsters, we expect the Cayman to perform slightly better than the Boxster in all measurable parameters.
