Porsche Museum to Open on January 31

A brand like Porsche can surely afford the luxury of opening its own museum where their cars will never grow old and turn into classics. In fact, at the moment, the final preparations are being made for the opening of an exquisite Porsche museum on Saturday, 31 January 2009, in Stuttgart.

The building of the museum was completed in December 2008, but it will only open its gates to visitors at the end of this month. As a matter of fact, the German car maker expects more than 200,000 visitors to the Museum each year. And certainly they will have no regrets regarding the visit as they will have the unique chance to see more than 80 cars on display in 5,600 square meter (60,250 square feet) . The collection ranges from vehicles like the legendary wheel hub motor of the Lohner-Porsche, the world’s first hybrid automobile built as far back as in 1900, to the latest generation of the Porsche 911.

Apart from the exhibited cars, the Viennese architects Delugan Meissl who created the museum, at the proposal of the German car maker, have designed a special area where owners of old, historic Porsche cars can have their vehicles restored. Yet, the visitor has the chance to see Porsche’s master mechanics and specialists working on all kinds of classic Porsches.  That's why this area is suggestively called the “transparent” workshop.

Besides the exhibition itself, the historical archives and the “transparent” workshop for historical cars, the Museum offers a wide range of catering services as well as a coffee bar, a bistro and an exclusive restaurant. In addition, conferences, film screenings or concerts, quite independently of the usual exhibition activities could also be held at the new Porsche museum.
