Despite Chinese automakers making huge leaps in design and engineering, there's still a huge problem with copyrights in China. There's absolutely no guarantee that somebody won't copy your big luxury vehicle and sell it on with a 1.3-liter engine from Mitsubishi or Nissan. The only solution to this is problem is to file your design with the local Chinese copyright agency in order to protect it locally.
This means these patent images of the Macan don't necessarily mean the SUV is coming to China, just that Porsche wants to protect its design. However, big-brother-Cayenne is hugely popular there and so we wouldn't even be surprised if local production is considered.
An official local debut at next April's Beijing Auto Show looks likely. There might even be some local nuances. We did a quick analysis of the photos reveals one major difference: two large trapezoidal exhaust pipes. All Porsche S models, including the Macan S and S Diesel, have four pipes. So, we're likely looking at a base model, the rumored four-cylinder that's supposed to come out next year.
