Porsche Macan 2.0T: 30-Minute Walkaround Will Reveal All

The Porsche Macan SUV has been looked at from every angle by just about every motoring magazine in the world. Most if not all loved it, but almost nobody has seen or driven this thing, the Macan 2.0T, which is specifically designed for emerging markets and isn't available in Europe or the US.

Most of the stuff we liked about the Macan when we tested it is still here, but some major changes have taken place under the bonnet. The usual V6 turbo engine you find under the bonnet of your average Macan has been replaced by a 2-liter TFSI unit that belongs to your typical Audi Q5. Mind you, the two models share platforms, but have never before used the same engine. Output is officially rated 237 PS (174 kW) from 5,000 rpm and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) from 1,500 rpm.

It's bad… but not that bad

The gearbox is not Audi's, however, but Porsche's own PDK, delivering the goods to an all-wheel drive system. According to Porsche, the Macan 2.0T tops 100 km/h in in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 223 km/h. That makes it about 0.6 seconds slower to the benchmark speed than a Macan S Diesel.

Here's how the tradeoff works: You pay about 25% less than on a Macan S or Macan S Diesel and get something that looks almost the same. The downside is that it's slower and 15% less economical than the diesel. The money you save on the engine can be put to good use on options that you like.

With the car in this video posted on Youtube by alexlovesmac, you can't even tell it's the base Macan, since it's been kitted out with the sexy 21-inch "Turbo" design alloy wheels. The interior gets standard leather, but you might want to invest in the driver assistance features.

Our say: Buy it if you must, but never look under the hood – empty spaces will depress you.
