Porsche has lent owners of its classic models a helping hand and provided a fresh set of tire recommendations.
Instead of merely suggesting the fitment of new tires, Porsche worked with rally legend Walter Rohrl to develop, test, and release tires for its classic models. The tire brand selected for this collaboration is Pirelli.

This is not the first time Porsche helps the owners of its classic models, as over 70% of all the cars the company built are still in drivable condition today, and many of them are classics.

Porsche’s latest recommendations for tires are suited for vehicles made between 1959 and 2005, and include a total of 32 tires.

The oldest model focused on the recommendations is a 1959 Porsche 356 B, while the newest is the 996-generation of the 911. Tires for the classic models come with the Porsche “N” designator, to identify them as being approved for the special release from the German brand.

While the new tires have authentic profile patterns, dimensions, and cross-section ratios, the compounds, and technologies used for manufacture are state of the art. Thanks to the new tires, Porsche enthusiasts can enjoy a classic look for their old cars without using outdated technology.

Porsche also states that the new tires fully comply with official EU tire regulations, and they provide “good rolling resistance figures and excellent grip.” Dieter Röscheisen, Porsche tire tester, stated that customers of classic models will get to “follow the curve into the modern era with balanced driving properties.” We believe that pun was intended.

Porsche even went and developed tires for motorsport use of historic vehicles, and it has a Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tire available in sizes between 16 and 18 inches. The Pirelli company has developed both winter and summer tires for classic models, so customers who drive their cars daily can do this with classic-looking rubber and modern performance.

Porsche’s tire recommendation program has 161 different suggestions for summer tires and 131 for winter tires. The new tires can be ordered from any Porsche Classic Center. If you have a classic car from Porsche and you keep it in pristine condition, you probably know where the nearest one is.
