Porsche Insider Confirms Baby Cayenne

Rumors about the development of a smaller Porsche SUV have been flooding the web for some time, and now we have a confirmation coming from one of the company's insiders.

According to the German newspaper Handelsblatt, a Porsche insider said that the company’s plans for the upcoming mid-size SUV are in an advanced stage.

The new model will be the fifth vehicle in the German carmaker’s range, joining the 911 coupe/cabrio, Boxster/Cayman, Cayenne and Panamera.

The introduction of the baby Cayenne will allow Porsche to claim a slice of a market segment which is already being disputed by rivals like Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

The upcoming vehicle will use one of the Volkswagen Group’s platform, most likely the one that currently underpins the Audi Q5. The vehicle will require a massive investment, as it will have to be eligible to wear the „Porsche” badge, but this is no problem for the automaker, which has made a similar move when it introduced the first Cayenne.

The release of a new SUV might not be welcomed by some, who consider that this kind of vehicles destroy the brand’s performance image. And we can’t bring an argument that demonstrates the fact that the SUVs bring anything positive in terms of image.

But we can mention the fact that the Cayenne, a vehicle that brought many controversies when it was launched, has offered hefty financial support for the automaker. Therefore, it is necessary for certain automakers to include such models in their line-ups in order to survive and be able to offer the loved performance vehicles that made them what they are today.
