Porsche has obtained the strongest delivery result in the company's history over the 2021 fiscal year. When compared to 2020, the German company had an increase of 11 percent, which added up to 301,915 vehicles being delivered. But that is not all, as the result has another surprise.
The most popular Porsche model in 2021 was the Macan, which led delivery rankings with 88,362 units. The Cayenne came in second place this time with 83,071 vehicles. That means that over 171,000 Porsche SUVs were delivered in 2021, leading to more than half of all deliveries being represented by SUVs.
While Porsche purists were angry when the first Cayenne was revealed two decades ago, it is obvious that the German company was right to offer it in the first place. The Cayenne has led Porsche sales charts several times now, and only the arrival of the Macan made it settle for second place.
As we mentioned above, there is another surprise to this year's result. Porsche Taycan deliveries have doubled since 2020, and 41,296 units have reached customers last year. At the same time, the 911 has also set a record for its deliveries, with 38,464 units in 2021.
The 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster were delivered to 20,502 customers (about the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden), while the Panamera got 30,220 deliveries last year. Overall, almost 40 percent of Porsche vehicles delivered in Europe in 2021 were plug-in hybrids or electric vehicles.
The biggest volumes were obtained in China, where Porsche had an eight percent increase in sales. The German company also had an eight percent increase in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East markets, which are put together in the company's end-of-year table.
Meanwhile, the biggest increase in deliveries was 22 percent, in the USA, which brought the same percentual increase for the Americas. The latter market also brought great results for Bentley and for Lamborghini.
In Europe, Porsche deliveries in 2021 rose by seven percent to a total of 86,160 units. Out of those, 28,565 went to Germany, the marque's domestic market, which had a nine percent increase over the past year when compared to 2020. Overall, Porsche has a strong demand across all markets, which should be great news for purists who want to see the marque they love thrive.
Despite these excellent results, Porsche representatives noted that unit sales are not the decisive factor for them. Instead, they want to offer unique customer experiences and exclusivity, as Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board responsible for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG stated.
