Porsche Design Presents the Four-Wheeled Pink Piggy Bank

As a tribute to the pink-colored Porsche 917 that caused a stir at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1971, a piggy bank from Porsche Design Driver’s Collection in the design of the race car has just been launched.

The 917/20 embodies the effort to combine the advantages of the short tail and long tail version of the legendary 917 race car.

At the three-hour test race at Le Mans the 917/20 succeeded to win, although without previous testing. In the actual 24 Hours race it was forced to retire at the end of the race, following an accident while lying in fifth place. The 600 hp race car didn’t attract the attention of spectators and photographers solely because of its exceptional shape.

“Its color and shape soon earned it the regrettably appropriate epithet “Pink Pig”. This distinctive color scheme was the work of Porsche designer Anatole Lapine, who came up with the pink finish and with names of cuts of meat written in German across it in a similar fashion to a butcher's carcass diagram,” Porsche Design explains.

The piggy bank 917 comes in detail in the design of the legendary “Pink Pig”, is made of ceramic and elaborately decorated with a lockable opening for removing coins. It is just perfect to satisfy specific and individual wishes, no matter what the age. Entirely like the model of 1971.
