If you happen to own a classic Porsche, here's something that might draw your attention: Porsche Classic is offering a new navigation radio for classic sports car. Yes, you read that right, your beloved vintage Porsche will now be equipped with a navigation system. How cool is that?
Since driving a Porsche is known to cause a total unplug from mundane worries, there's a high chance one could get lost while enjoying a ride through the mountains, countryside or French Riviera for that matter. It really doesn't matter. The point is that Porsche Classic designed a device that combines the new in technology and the old in design - in a good way, as it goes without saying.
According to Porsche, the unit fits in the DIN-1 slot used in sports cars and can be operated via two knobs, six discreetly integrated buttons and a 3.5-inch touchscreen display. The device wears the Porsche lettering and is compatible with a vast array of Porsche models, starting with the first-gen 911 of the 1960s and the last of the 911 series with air cooling from the mid-1990s - the infamous 993 series.
Furthermore, the "new navigation radio comes with all the key systems. In addition to low-interference radio reception and precise navigation, it has interfaces for a variety of external music sources that can be controlled from the display." In other words, owners can connect their smartphones via Bluetooth and the maps are stored on a microSD card with 8GB of memory, regularly updated by Porsche.
The new navigation radio is already available in Germany, for a price of 1,184 euros ($1,339) including VAT, while Stateside customers will have to wait for an official pricing of the device until it completes final testing stages.
