When the Internet goes crazy, marrying the Porsche 911 to the Honda Civic in a rendering that strangely doesn't look half bad (at least to these eyes), one has to wonder about the meaning of such a mélange.
So, what is the front end of this 2020 Civic Si doing on the body of the 992 Neunelfer Carrera S? If you ask us, this digital portrait, which comes from Instagram label Car Front Swaps (yep, the name is pretty much self-explanatory) can be used to talk about voids in both automakers' lineups.

We'll start with the Japanese company, since things are simpler here: Honda has already showcased a concept previewing the 11th generation of its iconic compact model and we already know the coupe will be discontinued. The reason for this? Well, as the company has explained, sales of the coup have taken a dive from 16 to just 6 percent since 2016.

As for the Zuffenhausen side of this story, fans have been expecting a compact Porsche sports car for well over a decade. The plans to introduce a model slotted below the Boxster were part of a scheme that should've seen the Porsche sharing the Mittelmotor (mid-engined) platform with sister cars from VW and Audi. But while the Volkswagen Concept BlueSport gave us hope back in 2009, the project was put on an indefinite hold in 2014.

However, thanks to Porsche recently opening up its design studios last month via the Unseen project, we've found out the company developed multiple secret concepts of the sort last decade, with the Vision 916 completed last year being the most recent.

The minimalist design of the proposal, which never went past the clay model stage, was supposed to conceal an electric architecture and this can obviosly serve as a hint for a potential production model.
