The rumors about Porsche developing a mid-size offer have been around for quite a while and now Porsche CEO Matthias Müller has admitted that the company is well into the plans for adding a seventh model to its range.
Müller told autocar that Porsche is convinced a seventh model would bring the company a complete line-up.
“I think a seven-model series would be a good line-up because most cars have a seven-year life cycle. If we had seven models we could have a major event each year, as well as the variants,” Porsche’s CEO said.
While Müller couldn’t be persuaded to talk about the details of the vehicle, it seems that other highly ranked Porsche officials have confirmed that the company has submitted initial plans for a mid-size vehicle to its owner, Volkswagen.
If approved, the baby Panamera will be underpinned by the second-generation MLB platform. This will come from Audi and it’s set to be introduced by the new A4 in 2015. To get an idea of just how modular this architecture is, you should know that the current MLB underpins the Audi A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, as well as the Q5 and Porsche Macan.
Speaking of the Macan, its sheer existence builds a business case for the future baby Panamera, since the new scheme would simply mirror Porsche’s Cayenne-Macan line.
