When you've built a Porsche Cayman racecar with a 911 front end, what's the natural thing you can do with your machine?
Going full throttle on the Nurburgring is the obvious answer here and yet the driver of the mid-engined Porsche in the clip below manages to do this in a totally unexpected manner.
The heavily modified Cayman goes wide in a corner, with the car getting onto the grass from the first meters of the bend. At first, the driver treats the controls of the Porsche gently, as not to completely offset its balance.
However, the man runs out of nursing time, with the Cayman racecar going wider and wider until it enters a fully sideways state on the gravel safety zone at the corner exit.
While the countersteering angle was already extreme, the Cayman's encounter with the protection element on the side of the track seemed inevitable.
In a move that has to be the best save we've seen this year, the driver went full throttle (or close to that), straightening up the Porsche.
He missed the barrier by one or two inches, with his rally-style maneuver being so effective that he had to countersteer in the opposite direction a bit as he returned to the track.
The man carried on racing as if nothing had happened - an Aston that had enjoyed a much cleaner trajectory through the corner didn't miss the opportunity to pass the Cayman, but our gravel-drifting guy instantly starts hunting the British machine.
Before we invite you to hit the "play" button below and check out the action, we want to talk about the car a little bit.
This is one of the most unusual Caymans we've seen. The 911 face mentioned above is just one of the extreme elements here, being accompanied by a GT-spec rear wing that makes that on the GT4 seem small. Polycarbonate windows and a rollcage complete the motorsport trim.
