The Nurburgring can accurately be described as a collection of traps waiting to tear one's machine apart. Sure, track officials and many of the amateurs and pros that blitz the Green Hell constantly work towards minimizing the risk of accidents, but some of these crashes are simply impossible to avoid.
And perhaps the greatest hazard, given its unpredictability, involves fluid spills. We've brought along an example of just how dangerous such a slippery episode can be, with this involving a multi-vehicle accident.

The pile-up took place earlier this year, during a race held on the Ring. Fortunately, it seems that all the racers involved in the ka-bang walked away from the unfortunate adventure.

This racecar destruction derby kicked off with a VW Polo GTI slipping on fluid (this was probably oil, rather than coolant) and taking more than one hit. Fortunately, a BMW M235i that was close managed to avoid hitting the Vee-Dub.

Alas, two other drivers weren't all that lucky, with a Porsche Cayman GT4 rear-ending a Volkswagen Corrado, with the latter being sent into the guardrail nose-first.

And that wasn't the end of the pile-up, since a Porsche 911 also slipped and hit the metallic element on the side of the track, with the 997 taking serious damage.

Note that this crash is part of a compilation showcasing 18 accidents and can be found on the #1 spot (this aways you at the 9:51 point of the video). We've talked about many of the crashes seen here as they happened throughout the year, but there are also a few we haven't covered, such as the BMW M3 CSL one. This high-speed shenanigan didn't take place on the Green Hell, but on Spa Francorchamps, tearing apart the rear section of the limited edition M3.

Returning to Nurburgring safety improvements, the construction work updates for the 2019 layout involved smoothing out certain areas, such as Schwedenkreuz, to make ensure a more stable experience.
