Porsche Cayman Clubsport Coming

Rumors about a hardcore version of the Porsche Cayman are increasing in intensity, after the first hint to such a model surfaced late last year, following the release of the Boxster Spyder.

Said to be following the same principles which stood behind the creation of the Spyder (the Boxster Spyder is currently the lightest model throughout the entire range of Porsche cars, weighing 1,275 kg or 2,811 lb), the Cayman Clubsport will also get upgrades to the engine.

According to ZerCustoms, the Cayman Clubsport will use the same 3.4l six cylinder unit as used on the Cayman S. The difference is that, unlike the 320 hp the engine on the S spits out, this new version may even go as high as 330. Not much, yet plenty, given the fact that the weight will go down. The unit will be paired with the carmaker's PDK transmission. Additionally, Porsche's Sports Chrono Package (sportier tuning of the chassis and engine) will add to the changes.

To cope with the changes, Porsche will also tweak the vehicle's suspension and brakes of the Cayman. Together, the changes will make for at least impressive performance figures: naught to sixty acceleration in under 5 seconds (5.1 seconds on the Cayman S with PDK) and a top speed of above 275 km/h (171 mph).

According to the source, the Cayman Clubsport will be tweaked visually with the help of the aerodynamics package. Pricing is rumored to be over EUR80,000 ($98,000).
