Porsche Cayenne Hybrid Launched in China

Porsche used the Guangzhou Auto Show in China to unveil the new Cayenne Hybrid, a model that although it is designed to reduce emissions and improve mileage, is unlikely to benefit from a green subsidy from the Chinese government. According to a report published by China Car Times, pricing will most likely begin at $256,000, but more details are expected to be released in early 2011.

The Cayenne S is equipped with a supercharged 3.0l V6 internal combustion engine, paired to an electric motor. The two units are capable of producing a total power output of 380 horsepower (333 of them come from the internal combustion engine alone). The two drive units in the Cayenne S Hybrid are connected by a decoupling clutch, while the V6 engine is mated to a new eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission.

In the United States, the Cayenne Hybrid has been rated at 21 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, according to official data, while being able to deliver top-notch performance, including a 0 - 62 mph (0 - 100 km/h) acceleration of 6.1 seconds.

Furthermore, the car is eligible for Federal Tax Credit, meaning that all those who decide to buy the Cayenne Hybrid before December 31 could get an incentive of up to $1,800. The base price before federal tax credit is $67,700, excluding destination charges.

Although trim levels could be different depending on the market, the Cayenne is offered as standard with 18-inch wheels, automatic headlight activation, 2-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, adjustable rear seat bench and audio system with touchscreen color display.
