Tennis star Emma Raducanu is honoring her Romanian roots by driving a Romanian model – a Dacia Sandero. While it’s not one of the most luxurious cars out there, it’s surely one of the most affordable.
Emma Raducanu, 19, impressed everyone last year as she bagged a successful title at the 2021 U.S. Open. This year in March, Porsche announced its collaboration with Raducanu, making her a brand ambassador. She also got collaborations with Evian, Dior, British Airways, and Vodafone.
But the new multi-millionaire, who has an estimated net worth of just over $5 million, drives a very affordable car in her day-to-day life: a practical Dacia Sandero from the previous generation.
The British star is therefore honoring some of her roots with this car, made by the Romanian manufacturer. She was born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in England, from a Chinese mother, Renee Zhai, and a Romanian father, Ion Raducanu.
Although it was considered “one of Britain’s cheapest cars,” at around £8,000 ($9,781) when new, the previous generation Sandero came as the convenient car that Dacia intended to offer and exactly what Emma needs when braving the traffic in the UK. The 19-year-old U.S. Open champion was just spotted getting behind the wheel of the white hatchback that would make James May proud, as you can see attached below.
The previous generation Dacia Sandero came with several powertrains, ranging from the 0.9-liter L3 petrol engine to the 1.5-liter L4 diesel unit.
Back when she announced her collaboration with German brand Porsche, she explained that “For me to be a brand ambassador for Porsche means a lot,” says Emma Raducanu. “Porsche is one of the brands I’ve always loved from a young age. One of my first tennis coaches drove a 911 Targa. Whenever I would turn up to practice in the morning, I would see his Porsche, I would go wow and be like dreaming of one day sitting in my own.”
But, while she can afford to buy any type of car she wants, the young adult proves she can be practical and responsible with her hard-earned fortune.
