When Porsche shows a concept car, it’s usually production-intent, but Bernhard Maier, Porsche AG board member for sales and marketing, says it was not so with the Panamera Sport Turismo Concept that’s currently on show at the Paris Motor Show.
The car was supposed to preview a wagon or shooting brake version of the Panamera saloon, but to most people it also shows a new design direction for the company, maybe one that will be used by the Panamera facelift or one that will be reserved for the next generation.
Maier says it was shown at a Porsche customer clinic and in Paris and that the reaction was so good that "it is getting more likely that we will do such a car.” Similar clinics will be done in China and the United States soon, though we don’t expect the model will see too much opposition.
"We will offer it to people who spend leisure time with children and sports but at the same time want a sportier car," Maier said.
Bernhard Maier has recently been involved with increasing Porsche’ dealer network in China. He was appointed to the Porsche AG board in April 2010. Up until that point, he had been Chairman of the Management of Porsche Deutschland GmbH.
