Porsche 999 Project Is Equal Parts Architecture and Automotive Design

We feature a lot of renderings here on autoevolution, and that's because as diverse as the automotive industry is, it can never match the endless possibilities of the digital world.

Most of the time, the various creations come from relatively unknown designers or even people who have no connections to the world of cars other than their undeniable passion. Sometimes, though, we come across projects that bear a much heavier signature, and, as you can probably guess, this is one of those cases.

The man behind the Porsche 999 project has drawn a few models you might have seen on the street, with the E85 version of the BMW Z4 being the most emblematic. He also had a hand in saving the BMW X3 by helping with the design of the much improved second generation, as well as the F10 BMW 5 Series.

Andreas Warming is what you would call "an accomplished designer" and is now plying his trade with Borgward as well as operating his own design studio, Warming Design. However, the Porsche 999 is a personal project that has nothing to do with his current affiliations, but rather with his own admiration of the 917 race car his creation bears obvious resemblance to.

According to Andreas, the 999 would be some sort of successor to the 911 GT1, the Carrera GT, and the more recent 918 Spyder. It's not a race car, then, despite the aspect suggesting otherwise, though we suspect it wouldn't need too many modifications to stand a chance on the track as well.

From certain angles - particularly the rear - the 999 looks like an alternative version of the Roborace car. That's because the cabin is so low and so far forward, it's hard to imagine a regular-sized person ever fitting in there. Luckily, no one will ever have to try.

The Porsche 999 is undeniably beautiful, and it's all down to its unnatural proportions and the way it juggles with the positive and negative space. Usually, you can ignore designers whenever they speak about their creations because they'll mention pretentious things you'll have a very hard time finding in the car you're looking at.

Andreas, on the other hand, is a lot more direct: "What I also tried on this car is to allow for certain shapes just to be. Not to over decorate them". Mission accomplished on both accounts, Mr. Warming, as simplicity wins another round.
