Given the exponential growth in the interest for the Porsche 911 these days, it seems almost impossible to believe that the rear-engined model was supposed to be replaced by the 928 in the late 1970s. Alas, we have yet to receive a successor for the latter since the V8 grand tourer left the scene in 1995. Well, digital artist Chris Labrooy now takes the 928 into the future thanks to one of his most elaborate renderings to date.
The Scottish artist has joined forces with Porsche in the past and you can instantly feel the enthusiast's connection to Zuffenhausen's machines in the pixels he puts together.

The gullwing doors of this 928 bring a Star Wars aroma when opened, at least to these eyes - hence the nickname we used in the title. Besides, the German automaker has been officially involved with the sci-fi franchise.

However, the doors are far from the most extreme feature of the car, as that title goes to the air propulsion system of the vehicle. It's also worth noting the 928 GTS-borrowed rear wing seen here may have been adjusted to suit the new three-dimensional "drive" of the Porsche.

And while you might've seen said air propulsion hardware before (this piece of 911 art is the culprit for the deja-vu), this fresh effort might just be the first Labrooy Porsche that comes with a redesigned cabin.

The minimalist approach used for the interior mixes traditional Porsche elements, such as the Pasha finish of the seats and floor mats, with a digital instrument cluster matching those offered on current models like the Taycan, as well as a steering wheel that's a design masterpiece in itself.

In fact, here's what the artist had to say about the project: "I need to escape this planet and the Porsche 928 is going to help me do it. I got carried away with this one and decided to make an interior from scratch. Soft geometric shapes with Porsche pasha fabric applied to the seats, carpets and door cards. I think this suits flight even more than the 911 i did a while ago. It feels right with its pointy arrow like form."
