Porsche 918 Spyder Without Paint, 1 of 2, for Sale at $2 Million

With Porsche having now ended the 918 Spyder production, it’s safe to say that just two examples of the hypercar have left the Zuffenhausen factory without paint. Those of you who are sorry for having missed the opportunity to acquire a 918 lightened in such a way can now rejoice - one of those cars is up for grabs.

You can now blame Canada California for this extreme-diet 918, with the Porsche halo car being offered by CNC Motors in Ontario. This isn’t a story about how the clear lacquer allows you to feast your eyes on the carbon fiber’s eye-catching texture.

Instead, the aim was to bring the weight down as much as possible. Porsche has chosen a matte wrap to cover this 918 Spyder thanks to the 14 lb (6.3 kg) weight reduction it offers, while the bucket seats inside the hypercar, which are built out of Nomex, save an additional 8 lbs (3.6 kg).

The German automaker has made it clear that customers should take a re-wrap into account at a certain point in the vehicle’s life.

While it might seem like such weight saving measures are more about bragging rights than anything else, the seller talks about how the spec is identical to that of the 918 Porsche used to set the 6:57 Nurburgring time. In fact, the company even insists on potential customers watching the video that shows Porsche works driver Mark Lieb manhandling the gasoline-electric machine around the ‘Ring.

Once you’ve made sure your piggy bank is stuffed with around $2.1 million (EUR1.93 million at the current exchange rates), feel free to grab yourself one uber-focused Porscha. Considering a new 918 Spyder had a starting price of $850,000 in the U.S., this may or may not sound like a pretty good deal.

With a mere 1,856 miles (just under 3,000 km) on its odometer, the naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 included in the hybrid powertrain has barely been woken up, so here’s to hoping the next owner will hold on to the car for longer than its first buyer. In fact, with the Nordschleife set to be slightly revised for 2016, the gentleman or lady who buys this car could put it to good, scientific use.
