Before we plunge click forward into the footage showing a standing start drag race between a Porsche 918 Spyder and a Lamborghini Huracan, let’s think about it for a minute.
Does such a race make sense? The Raging Bull is 300 horses down on the hybrid hypercar, and they’re both all-wheel drive, so it’s not like the Huracan can use the wet track to its advantage. The answer to the aforementioned question is a big, fat “Yes”.

That’s because the clip below, which comes from Shmee150, demonstrates just how great the difference between on-paper racing and real world action is. The battle between the two machines brings them much closer than you’d expect. It all took place over the weekend, at the Vmax200 event in the UK. You know, the event that also hosted the LaFerrari vs Veyron drag race rematch, among others.

The reaction time at the start does make a surprising difference, so when you’re out there racing somebody, make sure your reflexes are up to date. We won’t ruin the fun by explaining what goes on in the footage, but we do want to throw in a little spoiler.

The Huracan goes all the way up to 211 MPH (340 KM/H), and while we can’t see the speed of the 918 Spyder, we do have a few terrifying clues. For one thing, it looks like the Porsche barely has time to stop at the end of the 2-mile runway. It was a white knuckle drive for both cars, even though the underdog status of the Huracan did put more pressure on the guy in the Porsche.

PS: yes, we too are wondering if the 918 Spyder was low on electron juice during this race. This only comes to show how many questions hybrid hypercars raise.
