As easy as on-paper racing might seem, real world conditions can easily unbalance a duel, especially when talking hypercars. We are here to give you the latest example of that and it all has to do with the VW Group.
Don’t worry though, we’re not here for the Jetta GLI or anything of the sort. Instead, we want to show you a series of races between a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and a Porsche 918 Spyder.
The two battled it out on the drag strip and since the drivers couldn’t get enough of it, this was turned into a series of races. The 1,200 HP Veyron and the 899 HP Porsche fought for no less than six rounds. The result? Interestingly enough, it was a draw.
The most important factor here was the launch control, which goes to show just how important such a feature can be. The drivers deliberately used split (on and off) runs, to notice the difference using the feature makes.
In case you’re wondering about the automotive wonder that allowed the pair to meet, you have to know the drag racing event is part of the GoldRush Rally. This is taking place as you are reading this, with participants set to arrive at the finish line in Miami on June 13th.
P.S.: In a twisted manner, this makes us think of the Veyron’s successor, the Chiron, which is expected to go down the hybrid route. Sure, we're waiting for the official release, but it's this kind of racing videos that will make the icing on the cake.
