A while ago, there were talks about how tighter Dubai property rules proved even the opulent sometimes need to cut short. UAE’s expensive city is known for luxury shopping, architecture and extravagance, yet for the first time in a long while it was slowing down to prevent a housing bubble. But when it comes to its lavish Police fleet, made of the most expensive machines on the planet, there’s no stopping to these people.
As the Dubai International Motor Show it’s entering high gear, it’s been expected for the city’s deluxe Police car fleet to surprise visitors with something big. It’s hard to have people look somewhere else when you already pride with the likes of a Bugatti Veyron, BMW i8, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and much more.
However, Porsche’s hybrid hypercar is not just some expensive vehicle; it’s one that is fighting against the P1 and LaFerrari. If it’s not the looks, the mid-engined plug-in hybrid’s performance has to be it. Powered by a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter vee eight, this bad boy develops 608 horsepower without using its two electric motors. When all the three engines work as one, the 918 Spyder produces an impressive 887 horsepower.
The 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack delivers an all-electric range of 12 miles (19 km) while the top speed is set at 210 mph (340 km/h). Surely, the one in question, wearing the now traditional white and green colors, is never going to hit the track. Like its fellow supercars - hybrid or not - the Porsche too will be a marketing resource.
Nevertheless, with only 918 units ever created and the production ending in June, getting one is not exactly a walk in the park. There may be 297 units of this car sold in the U.S. - the country with the most orders - but this is Dubai.
Bottom line, with the pace the city’s special Police force is upgrading its car fleet, it should not come as a surprise if tourists approach police officers asking to be arrested just to get a ride home.
