Porsche 918 Spyder Shows Up at Supercar Sunday in California

Forget waffles and OJ in bed, what we car guys want on a Sunday morning is to smell the gasoline burning from a nice V8 or V12. Knowing that, Porsche of America decided to bring a production version for its California fans gathered only recently at a recent Supercar Sunday in Woodland Hills.

On scene to film the car, Youtuber DLMphotos tells us Water Rohrl, the famous Porsche test driver, was the one who drove the 918 on location. We're talking about a rally legend who raced not only for Porsche and Audi, but also Fiat's Abarth and Opel.

The 918 demands respect, not only because it parked over four spots, but because it costs $845,000 in America. Add the Weissach Package and this becomes a $929,000 hypercar which laps the Nurburgring in under 7 minutes. It's the stuff of legend!

Explaining to you just why the 918 Spyder is cool would take a few days. But know that its complexity is ridiculous. There's electricity powering both ends of the car with a screaming 4.6-liter V8 bringing up the rear for a total output of over 880 bhp with an estimated NEDC fuel consumption of just three liters per 100 km in Europe. That's 78.4 Stateside miles to the gallon, which is better than a Prius.

Seeing a technological tour of force like that in the flesh really makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up!
