Porsche 918 Spyder Chasing Another 918 Spyder on COTA Is How Works Drivers Play

Ever wondered what Porsche drivers do when they're out of the spotlight? They drive at eleven out of ten, obviously and we've got the latest example of this in the clip below.
The footage takes us to the track, where we get to see a 918 Spyder chasing another 918 Spyder. The pair of Zuffenhausen halo cars is seen at play at the Circuit of the Americas, with the Texan track allowing the 887 hp gasoline-electric toys to fully stretch their mechanical legs.

While the "camera car" sees works driver Patrick Long grabbing the wheel, the other hypercar is manhandled by Timo Gluck, the company's factory test driver.

Since we mentioned Patrick Long's name, we can't help but notice how Porsche is working to develop a cult around its driver. For instance, the automaker has launched a weekly series that sees Long using the 911 R to provide performance driving tuition. We get a new episode every Friday, and while only the basic moves are covered, the shenanigan is worthy of your time (you'll find more on the topic here).

In fact, Porsche has also asked the racer to introduce the new 911 GT3 R track machine earlier this month and you can found his moment at the link.

While last year the carmaker attempted to pull a similar stunt with Mark Webber, the focus seems to have switched to Patrick Long. But with the only American to be included in Porsche's factory team always showing a light-hearted attitude, who are we to complain?

Returning to the 918 Spyder, the uber-fast slab of Zuffenhausen may have gone out of production, but Porsche is far from considering this chapter as a closed one. Since the automaker is now working to bring the Mission E electron juice-powered vehicle into production, any EV or hybrid lesson is precious. Oh, and let's not forget the expected hybrid version of the next 911.
