Porsche 918 Spyder Autobahn Night Trip Goes from 215 MPH to Flame Spitting

A mix that involves the Porsche 918 Spyder and the German Autobahn would probably convince a five-year-old to expand his or her attention span, such is the intensity of the two's combined effect.

Well, this is precisely what we want to show you today, with the piece of footage below showing what happens when Zuffenhausen's halo car is unleashed on Europe's halo top velocity road.

Better yet, we're talking about a night drive, which means there are multiple benefits here. For one thing, this allows the gas-electric Porsche to fully express its thermal emotions.

We're talking about the top-mounted exhaust serving the motorsport-derived naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 of the 918 Spyder. As those of you who have a thing for Porsche know, the hardware likes to spit flames on a regular basis. And yes, the driver did take the time to install a camera that allows us to get a good look at the fiery show.

All the filming care might have to do with the fact that this 918 happens to be owned by Edo Karabegovic, the man behind Edo Competition. We'll remind you that the German tuner has taken delivery of no less than three 918 Spyders. Despite, this, we haven't heard of any modification details for the Porsche hypercar coming from Edo Competition's side.

Then again, when you have a machine that casually hits 215 mph, for example, as it can be seen in the video, the need for extra performance isn't exactly a priority. In the end, though, it all matters from which driver's seat you're looking at the matter.

That's because if you happen to be in a Koenigsegg Agera R, for instance, leaving the 918 Spyder trailing in your wake while driving in a straight line is easy. We've recently shown you various episodes involving such a Koenigsegg and a Porsche playing on the Autobahn, with the speed difference between the two being just as great as you'd expect.
