The Porsche 918 Spyder is not the kind of car you want to mess with. The plug-in speed racer is fast, agile and will knock out all the other supercars faster than they can say "V12s are better". Those are just the characteristics that the owner of this old Cayman wanted in his car, so he copied them.
As far as we can tell, this is the first-gen Cayman, but it could also be a heavily modified Boxster with a roof added. Convertibles are cheaper and more commonly used in such conversions.

The owner put in quite a lot of work to transform his basic Porsche into the best of its breed. However, it's just like buying one of those shirts with fake abs and pretending to be a bodybuilder.

The whole rear end of the baby sportscar has been customized, with flared fenders, an enormous spoiler and a supercar engine deck. He even replicated those distinctive exhausts that the 918 has, which come out the top. However, they're probably just for show.

As is usually the case with plans that are too ambitious, the owner ran out of money and couldn't finish the front end, so you immediately recognise the Cayman headlights. But the bumper has been changed for one that vaguely resembles a 918 Spyder. As for the interior, it's not really… finished, because we see a lot of duct tape and bits that are hanging off.

Even if a second hand Cayman can retail for under €10,000, we think it's a shame that Germany's best mid-engined sportscar is treated as a base for replicas.

In any case, check out the Cayman 918 video captured by DrGumo at the 8th PFF Annual Meeting at the Motorworld Böblingen near Stuttgart.
