Porsche has officially began its trip down memory lane this week with the launch of the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition. The model is the first of four specially crafted Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur collector 911s that will be released in the near future.
Trying to evoke its own design language from the 1950s and 1960s, Porsche gifted this 911 with a series of visual and comfort enhancements that will be found nowhere else in the line. And it all starts with paint.
All the 992 units of the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition to be made (a number chosen to remind us of the internal model series code of the car) will be available in one of five exterior colors – the one in the main photo of the gallery above is Cherry Metallic.
Adoring the body paint will be gold logos and a livery in white, a Porsche Heritage badge on the luggage compartment grille (a feature that is a nod to the 356, and will be featured on the rear ends of all Heritage models), and 20/21-inch Carrera Exclusive Design wheels over classic-look black brake calipers.
Inside, the special model comes with two-tone leather, a special material called corduroy on seats and door trims, green-illuminated rev counter and stopwatch, and a metal badge on the trim panel of the dashboard showing the number of the car in the series.
“With the Heritage Design models, we are evoking memories of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s in customers and fans alike,” said in a statement Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.
“No brand can translate these elements into the modern day as well as Porsche and, in this way, we are fulfilling the wishes of our customers. We are also establishing a new product line that represents the lifestyle dimension in our product strategy with these exclusive special editions.”
The 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition is already available for order and should reach dealers in the fall. With it, Porsche will also make available interior upgrades to match for the rest of the 911 series, and a brand new chronograph.
This item comes with a face inspired by Porsche’s speedometer and rev counter. The strap is made of the same leather the carmaker usually uses for its interiors, while the number of chronographs to be made matches the one of the cars in this edition, 992.
