Those who want to discuss the price of a Nurburgring stint should also consider the less visible facets of such an adventure. For one thing, lapping the Nordschleife can easily qualify as a self-assessment test, as extreme levels of self-control are required at all times.
Let's take the driver of the Porsche 911 Cabriolet in the piece of footage below, for example. The man goes through an episode that requires nerves just as strong as the Neunelfer's frame and yet he seems to pull it through.

The first part of the clip allows us to see the 991 going wide, with the sportscar eventually ending up with two wheels on the grass. Factor in the rear-engined layout of the machine and we end up with a slide that could've easily turned into a disaster.

You see, as the Porsche was fighting for grip, a Renault Megane RS passed it, so when the Neunelfer returned to the track (in a sideways state), it almost hit the hot hatch from behind. Oh, and let's not forget the air-cooled 911 behind the sliding Porsche, whose driver had to dig into the deceleration potential of the machine to avoid rear-ending the 991.

Judging from the 911 Cabriolet's dangerous-but-not-savage sideways movements, it looks like the PSM (Porsche Stability Management) system was in its half-on setting and eventually managed to bring the car back on track. However, the driver could've easily overcorrected, for instance, and the resulting crash would've been the kind that has the potential to total a car.

Fortunately, not one scratch resulted from this incident - we can see the 911 Cabriolet driving away slowly once the man behind the wheel regains control - ladies and gentlemen drivers, you are looking at a driver storing precious information here and since people aren't really engineer to multi-task, we can easily understand the slow pace of the car.
