We see it almost every day on our journeys of the interwebs, but there really aren't that many new 911 GT3 around. Back in 2014 when Porsche had to issue a stop-sale to fix that minor… fire hazard, only 785 models had been built and some weren't even delivered.
Oh sure, it probably cost Porsche about $300 million to replace all those engines, but the GT3 remains are rare as hens teeth.
That's why this photo session got us excited, as two differently colored race-ready 911 had been kitted out with HRE's custom wheels. Our firm favorite is the Mexico Blue model, which is probably unique and has clearly been lavished with a bit of undeserved attention from the photographer.
Along with the blue paint, the GT3 also sports custom HRE Classic 300 wheels finished in brushed silver. They measure 1×9.5 at the front and 21×12.5 at the rear and combined with black centre caps and yellow brake calipers.
Not much else has changed, which isn't surprising. The GT3's body is as low off the ground as a pig's belly and its aggressive bodywork doesn't need improving. Despite the recall scandal, the 3.8-liter flat-six engine remains a masterpiece of engineering, capable of delivering 475 hp while screaming its lungs out at 8,250 rpm. Don't think of it as a tuned Carrera S engine, think of it as a racing engine for the road, capable of giving you 125 hp for every liter without turbos.
