Porsche 911 GT3 Shows GT3 RS, Huracan and Others Who's Boss on Monza Track Day

Porsche's way of doing car business has a few traps laid out for us all. While Zuffenhausen's optional extras list, which can easily turn into a financial black hole, is one of them, we're here to talk about a temptation that's just as serious.
In all the frenzy generated by the 911 GT3 RS, which has only amplified with the arrival of the 991 R, many people tend to forget how brilliant the standard GT3, if we may call it that, can be.

Sure, like the Rennsport model and unlike the 911 R, the GT3 may have lost the manual gearbox, but the faster PDK-handled shifts allow one to focus on the rest of the driving and turn this rear-engined coupe into a phenomenal weapon for, say, a track day.

We've even brought along an example to show you that the GT3 fully deserves the title of a poster car, with its circuit efficiency being enough for that.

This clip brings us inside a GT3 RS that took part in a Monza track day last year. This is a standard car, manhandled by a guy who's not a pro driver. Sure, that doesn't mean the man doesn't know his way around a fast car.

In fact, this guy's driving would easily convince many to label this GT3 as having a "driver mod." Then again, it's rather difficult to calculate the exact spread of the credit for the amazing laps of the Italian track brought by the video.

The GT3 meets machines that clearly one-up it in terms of the power-to-weight ratio, such as a Lamborghini Huracan and a Mclaren 12C, but it manages to show both who's boss. As for Ferrari drivers, they seem to have had a particularly slow day on that occasion.

Nevertheless, the GT3 also happens to come across a GT3 RS. On the straights, the Rennsport model shows its superiority, but through the bends, the driver of the GT3 manages to extract more performance, passing the guy in the RS.

P.S.: Did we mention Porsche was recently spied working on the revamped (991.2) incarnation of the 911 GT3?
