In theory, a drag race between a 2016 Cadillac CTS-V and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS PDK should be a very close adventure.
For one thing, despite talking about a track-focused supercar animated by a naturally aspirated engine and a super-sedan packing a supercharged V8, the two pack almost the same power-to-weight ratio, namely around 3.1 kilograms per horsepower.
When it comes to the torque area, a bit of a stretch is all you need to be able to say the LT4 heart of the Caddy packs almost twice the torque of the Porscha's flat-six - we're talking 630 lb-ft (855 Nm) versus 339 lb-ft (460 Nm) here.
However, as much as GM praises the eight-speed auto of the CTS-V, this is no match for the PDK of the Rennsport Neunelfer. Not only does the Porscha's double-clutch unit deliver swifter shifts, but the aggressive GT3 RS tune means the rear-engined coupe's tranny is calibrated for the mid-range bite one needs on the circuit.
But enough about the on-paper part of such a race. After all, we're here to bring you a real-world battle involving these two machines, which is exactly what you'll find in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page.
The two unlikely competitors got together on an airfield in Germany, with the only thing the drivers needed to focus on being to mash the gas pedal.
This is a rolling start drag race we're talking about and while we won't throw too many spoilers at you, we have to reinforce the idea that we weren't kidding in the title above.
Of course, when it comes to such a brawl, the aural side of the fight can be just as YouTube-important as the race itself. Alas, the CTS-V served as the camera car for this piece, but at least we get a respectable supercharger voice.
