Porsche 911 GT3 RS Owners Report Downforce Issues on Nurburgring

From the front spoiler lip and the front fender louvres to the massive rear wing and the rear diffuser, there are plenty of upgrades meant to increase downforce.

Nevertheless, we’ve learned about at least two members of the PFF Porsche community (via TSK) who are experiencing problems with their GT3 RS machines. It seems that, as the downforce pushes the car, multiple elements located around the front wheel wells come in contact with each other.

The tires reportedly rub against the inner wheel well, while other components, such as the indicator lights, also get damaged.

The video below allows us to listen to the problematic friction and we can hear the tires rubbing against the inner wheel well. However, this 911 GT3 RS seems to use a custom camber setting, which could be the very source of the problem. Then again, there’s a second claim that doesn’t appear to involve any modifications. But since this is not reported from the owner's point of view, we can't place too much trust in it.

Our German is far from perfect and yet the problems are obviously not with the translation.

What does it all mean?

We won’t hide the fact that we’re puzzled by such reports. For one thing, problems such as the ones mentioned above would easily surface during the Green Hell torture testing prototypes are subjected to.

We’ve reached out to Porsche, asking them to shed some light on this potentially destructive matter and we’ll be back with an answer as soon as we have it.
