Porsche 911 GT2 RS Will Reportedly Show Up in 2018

Porsche will be looking to expand its range even further with a GT2 RS version for the all-mighty 911 coupe, but that will most likely only happen in three years' time.

Porsche (indirectly) confirmed that the market will receive a 911 GT2 RS version, but that would take time so the car won't come for the foreseeable future.

Interviewed by Autocar, Andreas Preuninger, manager at Porsche High Performance Cars said that Porsche will deliver a 911 GT2 RS but that won't happen as fast as we would like to. More exactly, the Porsche official pointed out that the GT2 RS will arrive somewhere around 2018. In addition, he said that the car will be ready to come out just as the 911 facelift will be approaching its due time so this could be a hint on the GT2 release year.

That being said, let's take a moment and do some logical connections, shall we? Earlier this month, Car and Driver spoke to Mr. Preuninger in Geneva, and they reported that the official ruled out a Porsche GT2 RS version based on the current 991 generation. Wait, what?

Of course, the Porsche man had a logical reason for that: Porsche's 911 GT3 RS is hardcore enough to satisfy the wishes of the most demanding customers and a GT2 variant would be redundant in that case. Especially bearing in mind that the 997 generation Porsche GT2 RS was good for 620 HP and could blast from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

So, who should we believe in this case? More important, who should fans and customers believe? That's too tough to answer right now, but we're hoping some light will be shed on that matter sooner rather than later.
