At what point can a person consider themselves a true Porsche fan? Is it once they have the car? Or is it when living in a Porsche designed apartment? Or how about when your shoes and clothing are also Porsche? No? Ok. How about when you have all that stuff and then a Porsche watch?
Yeah. I think that’s the point. Once you have all that stuff. But you would never be considered a true fan until you also have the timepiece.

If you didn’t know Porsche Design made timepieces, it’s time to get with the program. In these little accessories, we can find their years of expertise in materials and design, and they are no less exquisite than the vehicle itself. Most of their watches are indeed created at a tribute to Porsche vehicles and this one is no exception.

It’s been knighted the Chronograph 911 GT2 RS, and it pays tribute to, you guessed it, the 911 GT2 R2. But to do something like this, while still offering a RS feel to the watch is no easy task no matter how big a watch maker you are. It’s just one damn fine machine. But, by keeping this tribute design in house, Porsche Design was able to bring forth a winner.

From the start, we can see a number of automotive materials and design aspects reminiscent of the GT2, from the carbon fiber dial to even the leather used in the strap. But let's break it down a bit so we can get a clear picture of what's happening.

True, the dial is made from carbon fiber to pay tribute to the Weissach weight reduction package. The exterior paint has been set in the original GT Silver tone as to enhance the look and feel of the carbon fiber. Even the display resembles the instrument cluster and rev dial of the RS. This entire design is then balanced by a matte black bezel band that circles the face.

At the rear of the watch we will find the rotor for the chronograph. Just to make sure you know what is happening, this is an exact scale replica of the GT2 RS wheel. Completed from tungsten, it attaches to the internal movements of the watch through Porsche’s central locking system.

To make sure you don’t get the model wrong, the ‘RS’ inscription is smacked onto it. Another feature, although it may not mean much to non-timepiece fans is the individual chassis number engraved on the back of each chronograph case, letting you know your place in Porsche heritage.

To make sure that the entire piece is in line with Porsche lifestyle, the strap too has seen attention. The strap includes the same color scheme options as the ones offered on the interior of this iconic model. Even the materials are the same leathers and stitching pattern as used inside the car. The only manufacturer options for the color scheme is an all-black strap or red Alcantra.

The crown and pushers too include the same tungsten make-up and are accented to match the five-minute markers.

Please note that this is a very serious watch that you could probably pass on to your children. With some gold and 28 jewels of movement, you’re sure to get some folks asking who designed your watch, only for them to hear you whisper back ‘Porsche Design.’
