It's no secret that Porsche and Mercedes-AMG are engaged in a war, with the Nurburgring being one of the most important fronts. However, we are now here to discuss a different type of fight between two members of these German casts, namely a drag race involving the Mercedes-AMG GT R and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
So, if we leave the Mercedes-AMG Project One out of the question (this is till testing at the moment), we're looking at the top dogs of the two carmakers.
The Rennsport Neunelfer and the Beast Of The Green Hell (this is the official nickname of the Merc) recently got together in Russia, engaging in a fight that included a drag race.
And while both machines come in rear-wheel-drive form and pack Launch Control, the straight-line brawl involved a rolling start.
The 2RS we have here comes in factory stock trim, which means it delivers 700 ponies. Nevertheless, we can't say the same thing about the GT R, which has been taken from its standard output of 585 hp to around 650 horses.
Now, if you're looking to skip past the YouTube shenanigans and go straight for the racing action mentioned above, you should know this awaits you at the 23:00 point of the clip. Then again, the video also involves other shenanigans, such as a track battle between the two monsters, which follows the drag race (good luck with the YouTube caption translation).
And since we've talked about the Mercedes-AMG GT R, we'll remind you that Affalterbach engineers are currently working on an even more driving-focused version of the supercar.
Tentatively called GT R Clubsport, the newcomer has been spotted testing since last year (here's a prototype sighting from last month). We're expecting the newcomer to mix a reasonable diet with a slight increase in output and we'll return with fresh info as soon as we get our hands on it.
