Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS Drag Races Mercedes-AMG GT S with a Violent Result

This is exactly what takes place in the clip below, with the team over at Motorsport Magazine pitting the GT S against the 911 Carrera 4 GTS. The pair of sportscars is asked to perform in a quarter mile (actually it’s 400m instead of 402m) and they play the game spectacularly.

Before you watch the video, which is undoubtedly entertaining, allow us to point out somebody picked the wrong kind of 911 for this fight. You see, the 430 naturally-aspirated GTS isn’t exactly the perfect match for the 510 hp twin-turbo GT S.

For one thing, the Mercedes burdens each of its horses with 3.3 kg while the Porsche puts 3.7 kg in each saddle. Torque? The Stuttgart machine delivers 650 Nm (479 lb-ft), whereas the one from Zuffenhausen has 440 Nm (325 lb-ft).

Now, Porsches generally like to put a little hole in your wallet, but even so the Merc is the more expensive car here. In fact, the right tool for the job would’ve been the GT3 incarnation of the 911 and we mean this both financially and in terms of specs.

Despite sporting the same 3.3 kg/hp figure as the GT S, the GT3 would beat the Mercedes to just about any milestone, from the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint to the quarter mile and up to the top speed.

Of course, things are never simple with Neunelfers, since on the road neither the C4 GTS, not the GT3 are exact matches for the Mercedes-AMG GT S.

Speaking of which, Affalterbach is working on a hotter version of the GT. No, it’s not the Black Series, as that will arrive later on the model’s life. While it won’t be called GT3, since that name has Porsche written all over it, this will be a road-going version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 racer.

Until the company finds a name for it, dealers are already taking orders for this lighter and more powerful version of the GT.
