We’ve recently shown you the freshest set of spyshots for the upcoming Targa model of the new 991 generation and now it is time to give you a rendering of the car.
As a company source had told us, the Targa is not just in for a generation change, but also for an identity one. It seems that Porsche isn’t happy with the fact that not too many people are aware of the model’s place in the 911 range, so it has decided to split the special roof concept in two.

First, the 911 Coupe has already been gifted with a generously-sized panoramic glass roof, which comes as an option. This will allow the carmaker to further differentiate the Targa, which means that this will receive a radical new design.

Since we’re talking about Porche, new means retro, so the 911 model will be inspired from the original 1960s’ Targa, thus using a central rollbar that will also have am aesthetic role. In addition to this, the Targa could be marketed as a special Carrera rather than a standalone model.

All this is interesting to watch, but it seems that this return to the roots means that you’ll have to take off or install the roof panels by hand, which isn’t exactly a pleasant operation.

There have been multiple unnoficial reports indicating that Porsche is planning to offer us something special for its 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and maybe this will be the new Targa.
