Walk into a Porsche showroom right now, with a 718 Cayman on your mind, and you'll get to see three models: the base one, the S and the GTS, which is more like a value pack for the S. Yes, there's also the T (a bit of a value pack for the standard model), but this landed earlier this week over the Internet, so it's not in showrooms yet. However, next year will bring the 718 Cayman range-topper, namely the GT4.
We've spied the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 on countless occasions and we are now back on the topic - check out the Instagram post at the bottom of the page and you'll notice a prototype doing its thing in traffic.

With this being a GT Division model, the animal will receive dedicated front and rear aprons and these will be slightly more aggressive than those of the replaced vehicle. Note that we added a host of spyshots in the gallery above, so you can take a good look at the production design.

The outgoing GT4 was a delicious mix of a 911 Carrera S engine and 911 GT3 suspension and we're expecting the new one to be even fiercer.

We're not sure about the suspension, but Porsche has already confirmed that while the rest of the 718 range is comprised exclusively of turbocharged engines, the GT4 will maintain the naturally aspirated flat-six transmission.

And there's only one N/A motor left in the Porsche lineup, namely the 4.0-liter unit that animates the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS. However, while the unit delivers 500 and 520 hp, respectively, you can expect its output to sit closer to 400 ponies for the mid-engined model.

As before, the special edition will only be offered with a manual tranny, so it doesn't cannibalize the Neunelfer.

However, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT Clubsport, which is the track incarnation, is set to use a PDK and here's some spy material covering the racecar.
