Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Sports Cup Edition Is Our Red Treat of the Day

With about 1,200 drivers lining up on the starting grid each season, the Porsche Sports Cup is one of the most popular customer racing series in the world. This year, the competition turns 15, and to properly mark the occasion the German carmaker went out of its way to create a unique version of the favorite race car of this series, the 718 Cayman.

Called Sports Cup Edition, this particular car will be offered to Porsche customers for a limited time starting Monday, October 14. It doesn’t bring many technical improvements over the standard version, but the comfort and styling changes make up for what this edition lacks.

And the star of the car is the color red. Not splashed all over the vehicle as we might have expected, but rather used with imagination here and there to make each drop of paint count and change the feel of the car.

Based on the new 718 Cayman GT4, the Sports Cup Edition comes in an exclusive combination of black and white, and with satin gloss black 20-inch wheels. The red is seen as stripes on the driver’s side on the hood, roof, and rear spoiler, but also on the doors on both sides. The rim flange of the wheels are painted in red as well.

As a side note, the car also sells complete with an indoor cover to match the exterior.

At the interior, the new steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara comes with red 12 o’clock marking, the center of the driver’s seat is also red, and so are the seat belts.

Under the hood, the Sports Cup Edition uses the same engine as in the regular version, namely the 4-liter six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that develops 420 ps.

Porsche did not say how many of these special cars it will build, nor did it say how much it will charge for one.
