We've talked about Zuffenhausen's 718 Boxster on numerous occasions, but the time has come to see how the S model performs in an acceleration comparison that also involves the old Boxster S.
Before moving forward with the adventure, we'll take the time to remind you the newcomer is motivated by a 2,497cc flat-four that relies on turbocharging to deliver 350 hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of twist. As for the now-discontinued Boxster S, we're dealing with a 3,436cc six-cylinder boxer unit producing 315 hp and 266 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque.

While the output premium of the new model is obvious, we have to keep in mind the 718 Boxster S tips the scales at 2,987 lbs (1,355 kg), which means it's 77 lbs (35 kg) heavier than the car it replaces.

Now that we've gone through the numbers, it's time to see how these are translated into the real world. The video below, which comes from Motorsport Magazine, will help us with that.

The clip provides a dashboard view for both models, with the sportscars going for a 0 to 155 mph (250 km/h) sprint. Oh, and by the way, as a spicy detail in today's two-pedal dominated world, both Boxster S models present here come with a clutch.

While the obvious tendency is to watch the digital speedometer, to see the velocity difference between the two, the video has much more to offer. In order to enjoy the full potential of the clip, we're inviting you to pay attention to the analogue dials - we're thankful the German automaker is sticking to its old-school instrument cluster.

There's no way to deny the performance premium offered by the forced-fed machine, but you'll also notice the difference in terms of power delivery. While natural aspiration brings an entirely linear behavior, we can't say the same about the turbo model, despite Zuffenhausen engineers striving to reduce this drawback of turbocharging.

If you happen to be in the market for such a Porsche and feel the old car is the one, you still have time to find examples with delivery miles on their odo. Just saying.
