Pope Francis Involved in Motoring Safety Project Motomorphosis

The fact Pope Francis is probably the coolest guy The Holy See ever had is no longer newsworthy. The cool factor also comes from the fact that the Pope has sort of changed the way the Vatican interacts with the society and promotes a much deeper involvement of the papal institution in the common matters of the citizens, regardless of their beliefs. The Pope’s next step in this awesome direction is represented by his involvement in the Motomorphosis project, a well-thought campaign aimed at improving road safety by means of education and raising awareness. “The Motomorphosis project will involve Italian schools, chosen between the country areas where the safety issues and the traffic laws are more relevant, in collaboration with State Police, European Police and other institutions,” its originators say. Motomorphosis will also be present in the world’s biggest motorcycle show, the EICMA, 2014 through 2016 for even better exposure and interaction. Italian artists and calligrapher Alessandra Barocco will present the pope a decorated monotype symbolizing the Motoparade which will be created for the final exhibit and auction in 2016. This will mark the “seal of approval” from the Vatican, and the kick-off of the next stage in the Motomorphosis campaign.

Architect and designer Pino Spagnolo will deliver a motorcycle design he created especially for the project. It will be used as the “blank sheet” children, teenagers and even adults will then use for artistic and graphic creations. Fifty of these unique designs will be chosen by Motomorphosis and will be transformed in unique fiberglass models which will be exhibited and then auctioned, with all the earning donated by Motomorphosis to the different associations which promote and support the campaign’s goals.

Eight custom bikes delivered, too

Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki will also deliver 8 bikes which will be customized by select artists and whose liveries will be upgraded with messages coherent with the main ideas of the campaign. These bikes will also be on display and most likely auctioned at the end of the project. Motomorphosis is centered on delivering its message to youngsters, who, because of their lack of experience, are more prone to causing or being involved in accidents.

From the times when popes only decided upon matters such as who gets excommunicated or crusades to the modern and real involvement in the everyday problems, it looks like the Vatican has evolved quite a lot and this is a really nice thing.
