It’s holy Harley time once more, as the auction house Bonhams informs us that yet another Vatican-related motorcycle will go under the hammer in early February 2015 in the Les Grandes Marques du Monde au Grand Palais event in Paris, France.
If you read our October newsfeed back in 2012, we reported that Pope Benedict signed two Harley Davidson tanks, which would commemorate 110 years of Harley-Davidson history. Since Rome was one of the main cities to host big bar and shield celebrations, a visit to the Vatican seemed only natural.

The tanks were then returned to Milwaukee and installed on their respective motorcycles, one of which went to the Harley Museum, while the other, a FLSTC 103 Heritage Softail should have been presented to the Pope in the summer of 2013, during the celebrations.

The bike had a new Pope

Life is life, they say and Pope Benedict abdicated, so Harley had to present the Heritage Softail to the new Pope, Francis. Funny or not, this is the second Harley his holiness Pope Francis is auctioning lately, with the 1,585cc Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide he signed bringing no less than $329,000 (€240,675) for a charitable project in the Italian capital.

The Heritage Softail contains even more “holy factor” as it already bears the mark of two Popes, the first one to have signed the tank and the other one to have actually owned the motorcycle.

Papal Harleys always sold for charity

Like the Super Glide before it, the Heritage Softail will be auctioned for a charitable goal. This time, all the proceedings of the auction will head to “Stowarzyszenie Przyjazny Zwiat Dziecka (Friendly World Association), a Polish volunteer, independent, non-profit organization that offers care and support to children and families in need,” as Bonhams tells us.

The bike was entered with no reserve, with an estimate of €15,000-25,000 ($18,675-31,125), and no expected sum was conveyed by Bonhams yet. If you feel like riding a double-holy Harley, watch out for Bohnams’ lot listing in early January and do your best to secure this Heritage Softail. The catalogs for this auction will become available 4 weeks before the bidding takes place.
