Forgot about the Polo sedan, didn't you? We wonder what the German tuners would do with this thing if it were available in Western Europe. But it's not; so the Polo GT Sedan is a Russia-only affair.
Unless we're mistaken, there's a Polo GT sedan sold in India as well, but that one has a 1.2 TSI engine... or a diesel. The Russia one packs a more decent 1.4-liter turbo rated at 125 PS. It's not going to be a rocket, but at least it can be tuned.
You can't get that engine on the regular European Polo hatchback, only the 150 PS 1.4 with cylinder deactivation on the Polo BlueGT.
This being Volkswagen, you obviously get two gearbox options. The 6-speed manual comes with a very nice aluminum pedal set. You can also have it with a 7-speed DSG if you don't like shifting gears.
Beyond that, this Russian Polo sedan isn't bad looking at all. We'd like to think the GT is like a miniature Jetta facelift: really crappy and outdated at first glance and interesting after a while.
At the front, we see the old LED+xenon headlights from the GTI, mixed with a new bumper and some honeycomb grille accents. It's got GT badges on the front wings, just like a Golf GTI would. The stance is really bad, but this is a car for Russia, where roads are really bad.
The back is the part we like the most because it's got a dffuser, two exhaust pipes and, best of all, some new taillights. We think they use LED technology and clearly have a darker tint. Add 16-inch alloys and you get an attractive subcompact with old-school charm.
The interior features a diluted version of the GTI tartan seats that only use grays. The steering wheel and gear shifter look like they came straight from the Polo GTI facelift, but the quality of the dashboard plastics is well below that.
The first 300 Russians who buy this car will get a sweet deal on standard white paint with black stripes, just like the Scirocco GTS.
