You would imagine that the current R231 Mercedes-Benz SL, which we tested in SL 63 AMG guise, has been with us for long enough to make people forget about its predecessor. Fortunately, that’s far from the truth, with the latest example that demonstrates the R230 SL is still fresh coming from Poland.
Aftermarket developer Suhorovsky Design decided to gift the R230 SL with a wide body kit that somehow reminds us of the manic Black Series model. While the exterior package does make quite a difference when compared to the standard car, it managed to achieve this without turning to exaggerated details.
Up front, the roadster’s V-shaped apron keeps this profile, but comes with three massive intakes, as well as two extra ones that come in a much smaller size. Moreover, the parts that makes the car wide is also with twin openings.
Moving to the side of the SL, we find rounded, muscular wheel arches, as well as reworked front fenders, with the car owing a lot of the refreshed aspect to the latter. To this, we can add a pair of generously-sized side skirts, which feature small air intakes just before the rear wheels.
Moving to the rear of the Suhorovsky Design Mercedes-Benz SL, we find a... vent-free apron that houses a massive diffuser-like element, as well as overlapping quadruple tailpipes. The package is completed by an early 2000s-like rear wing.
The Polish tuning house hasn’t touched the wheels of the SL, which are AMG units. For those willing to go deeper into the details, we’ll mention the body kit wears the ATS.1 designation.
