In some places out there rules are rather broken than respected and police officers rarely do their job. But not in Vancouver, they don’t. Here, officers will punish you with a speeding ticket, impound your Lamborghini and later mock you on Twitter.
The Vancouver Police Department is quite active on social networks, but their Twitter feeds really came into the public’s attention the other day, when they posted an image of one of the cars they impounded. The picture was uploaded on Tuesday, and shows the black Lamborghini while it was loaded on the flat bed next to the speedometer showing 102 km/h (63mph).

Now, according to British Columbia’s Ministry of Justice, speeding is taken quite serious in this part of Canada. The speed limit inside a municipality is 50km/h (31mph) and outside is 80km/h (49mph). In child zones (schools and playgrounds) the limit is 30km/h (18mph) during the appropriate hours. So far these regulations apply in most of the countries, but when it comes to excessive speeding, things get worse.

Speeds greater than 40km/h (24mph) over the limit are considered excessive and are fined separately. The faster you drive, the higher the fine is. In the Lamborghini owner’s case, considering the fine was $368, we’re guessing he was exceeding the driving limit by more than 40km/h (24mph), but less than 60km/h (37mph).

Driving very fast is not only something that will get you a big fine and penalty points, but it will also result in the immediate impoundment of the vehicle. For the first offense the driver will have his car taken away for seven days, plus towing and storage costs (at least $210).

Like all this wasn’t enough, it would seem Vancouver officers thought they should also point out the driver’s deed, so they trolled the guy on their Twitter account. Well, at least now you know how not to drive in Vancouver.
