One dude from Germany was feelin’ too sexy for his clothes – and definitely too hot for extra layers. He went for a ride on his scooter in nothing but sandals and a helmet.
But hey, at least he was being safe! Police in Brandenburg, north-east Germany, pulled over the naked scooter rider and asked him what in the world he was doing, according to a post the official Twitter page, as reported by EuroNews. His response was brilliant in its simplicity: “It’s too hot!”
“[Police] joked that he must have been attempting ‘the Naked Man’ seduction technique from the How I Met Your Mother television show,” the report notes. The man’s response baffled them, first and foremost because he was right: Europe – and Germany – is in the midst of a heatwave.
“We could not disagree with that, but asked him to put on his pants and then let him continue his ride,” the PD says. “In principle, naked driving is not forbidden. But if other people feel disturbed by this, there may be a complaint.”
They also posted a separate post with photos of the naked rider, because you know what they say, pictures or it didn’t happen. This happened alright, and it’s a sight. Police are asking the public to offer suitable captions for the pics, as they’re only able to come up with adequate hashtags. #livingontheedge is one of them and a good one at it.
If you’re startled about that part of the PD’s statement saying that driving naked is not forbidden, you should know that something similar happens in the U.S. In most states, driving or riding naked is not illegal, though cases of naked drivers who got arrested have made plenty of headlines.
Driving naked only becomes illegal if someone else, say a fellow motorist or a pedestrian or Grandma Prude, sees you and becomes disturbed or offended by whatever it is that you’re showing.
On the other hand, if you’re going au naturel for sexual gratification and not just because it’s too hot outside like this German dude, then you’re in for an indecent exposure charge. It’s technically a misdemeanor but it can become a felony if kids see you. In the latter case, you might even have to register as a sex offender.
