An assumed medical emergency caused a police officer to lose control of his cruiser and crash into a house.
The whole thing happened on Saturday afternoon, in a small city called Harper Woods, Michigan. According to witness reports, the police cruiser was being driven at a high rate of speed and then veered off the road, jumped the curb, and crashed into a house.
Fortunately, nobody was inside or in front of the Michigan home, and the police officer at the wheel of the cruiser survived the impact.
Unfortunately, the officer does not remember the circumstances of the accident, so doctors and his co-workers are presuming the 15-year veteran suffered a medical emergency while on the job. Doctors have kept him in the hospital overnight for further inquiry, but he was alert, conscious, and with no major injuries.
The homeowner was attending a funeral at the time of the accident, and nobody else was inside the house. Just like her neighbors, she wants to find out what happened in the moments before the crash and discover the cause of this incident.
“I still want to know why. Wouldn’t you? If you came home and found your home all busted up?” said Stephanie Russell, a neighbor of the homeowner who lives two doors away.
According to Local 4 News, the police told reporters that the officer was not in pursuit and had just cleared a call. This means he was in no justifiable rush at the time of the incident.
As Click on Detroit reports, the damage to the house is extensive, with the front porch and facade having been destroyed. The city of Harper Woods has a population of under 15,000 people and events such as this one don’t happen too often in the area. Even though this is a relatively new city, it was home to the very first drive-in theater in the Midwest, which was also the first in the Metro Detroit area.
