It's never a good idea to run away from the police, but if you decide to do it anyway, make sure you have a full tank of gas.
Using a good car is also a good idea, but what exactly "good" means in this situation is up for debate. On the one hand, you might want a fast vehicle that will help you pull away from your pursuers. On the other hand, if you plan on leading the cops on a long chase, fuel efficiency comes into play. Still, no matter how frugal your car is or how large the gas tank, you still won't be able to outrun the police based on this tactic since they have the luxury of swapping cars as they run out of fuel. Unless you're running away from them in Grand Theft Auto, you won't be able to do the same.

The guy in the video below seems to have gone for the first option, driving a previous generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W204), even though it's not exactly the closest thing to a perfect getaway car. That said, the perp decided to casually cruise on the freeway despite the cohort of squad cars giving chase and the helicopter hovering above.

According to the news reporter, the man is a murder suspect from the Dallas area who got caught all the way in Irvine, Orange County, California, after a long but admittedly uneventful chase. And even if they don't make for the most spectacular video footage, these are the ones we'd like to see more of - if any - since the innocent drivers minding their own business were never put at risk.

The whole situation does get a lot more interesting as the suspect finally decides to give up and surrender. He opens the door before the car even comes to a complete stop, he drops something (the reporters say it's keys or a mobile phone, but to us it looks like a handgun) and lies down on the pavement a few feet away from the car. From there on and until he's apprehended, it gets a little weird. And very hard to watch for those with knee problems.
