The former performance division of Volvo now turned fully-fledged carmaker is getting ready for the launch of the first ever model to wear the Polestar name and the minimalist logo.
If you're not an Instagram user, then you might have missed the teasing campaign which comprised of a series of square images (how else?) that didn't account for much on their own. Collect them like the pieces of puzzles you find in cereal boxes, however, and you start to get an idea of what this first Polestar vehicle might look like.

The first thing worth noticing is that it's not Polestar blue, but rather white. It remains to be seen whether the recently founded company is trying to gain a different identity from that of a Volvo tuner and sees the iconic color as a connection to the past, or this is just a temporary thing.

Not much is known about the car itself, and the little that we do think we know has not been confirmed by the Geely-owned manufacturer. They say it should be a performance coupe, and putting together the few puzzle pieces does seem to support that idea. Word is it might resemble the Volvo Concept Coupe unveiled way back in 2013. Despite the years that have passed, it's still a very sexy design, so let's hope that one turns out to be true.

Polestar needs to remain true to its racing and performance credentials, so the only powertrain in the Volvo range that seems adequate is the T8 hybrid solution. Using a 2.0-liter supercharged and turbocharged gasoline engine coupled to an electric motor, the system produces 400 hp in the XC90 SUV, with over 300 of them coming from the combustion engine.

The performance specialists should have no problem boosting that by 100 hp or more, with the rest provided by an upgraded motor for a total of 600 hp. That would place the yet unnamed Polestar model in direct competition with the AMG, M Division or RS models from Mercedes-AMG, BMW, and Audi.

There are only 11 days left until the official premiere, so we'll have to see if Polestar continues to deliver the pieces of the puzzle one by one, or is leaving the rest to our imagination until October 17. Whatever the case, we should be looking at a quick and beautiful car, and no matter how crowded the market gets, there's always room for one of those.
